Manual & Duplicate Processes
Manual and duplicate processes were limiting efficiency across SDC’s operations.
About the customer
Security Door Controls (SDC) is a family-owned manufacturer of electrified access control and egress door hardware, including electromagnetic locks, electric strikes, delayed egress locks, and exit devices. Founded in 1972 and based in Camarillo, California, SDC designs and builds its products in-house.
As the company looked toward continued growth, SDC needed systems and processes capable of scaling without requiring additional people simply to absorb increased volume.
SDC went live with SAP Business One on November 1, 2025. Today, the solution serves as its core ERP across all functions, with Customer Support, Manufacturing, and Finance among its heaviest users.
The challenges
Before SAP Business One, SDC relied on a paper-dependent process spanning initial order entry, manufacturing, shipping, and invoicing. Multi-colored paper drove workflows across the organization, while limitations in the existing system contributed to manual processes that had developed and evolved over time.
Manual and duplicate processes were limiting efficiency across SDC’s operations.
Existing systems and processes needed to support the company’s continued growth.
Warehouse processes required greater mobility and improved data accuracy.
Reporting needed greater accessibility, accuracy, and timeliness across the business.
The solution
SAP Business One now serves as SDC’s core ERP across all functions, with Customer Support, Manufacturing, and Finance among its heaviest users.
Paper-driven workflows have been replaced with queries, dashboards, alerts, automation, and integrated Softengine solutions.
The solution
Softengine WMS+ dashboards and handheld units help SDC streamline staging, grouping, and product handling from the assembly line to the shipping table.
A stocking order that previously could be touched an average of five or more times is now handled once.
The solution
Automation has transformed SDC’s daily invoicing process. Before implementation, approximately 60 orders each day were manually invoiced.
Today, the overwhelming majority are processed through automation, with only 2–3 invoices per day requiring manual handling.
The solution
Softengine WMS+, Employee Portal, and B1 Mailer support mobile warehouse processes, manufacturing access, work-order activity, time posting, and automated daily invoicing.
Together with SAP Business One, these solutions support SDC’s move away from paper-dependent processes toward a more automated operating environment.
The results
With SAP Business One and Softengine solutions, SDC has moved from paper-dependent workflows toward more automated operations. Orders are now processed 60% faster, the overwhelming majority of daily invoicing is automated, and monthly commission processing has fallen from 8–10 hours to approximately two hours.
WMS+ has also streamlined warehouse handling, reducing a stocking order that could previously be touched five or more times to a single touch. As order volume increased, SDC was able to accommodate the additional activity without growing its Finance team and reallocate staff to other much-needed areas.
