As we near the end of 2021, technological advances completely surround us and are making vast improvements every day. Almost every aspect of our daily lives involves some type of advanced technology; most of us carry a mini supercomputer in our pockets. Just when there seem to be no more advancements that can possibly be imagined and created, technology companies develop ideas and products that seem out of this world extraordinary. Emerging from the pandemic, technologies are projected to flourish in the next couple of years. Here are some technology trends that are expected to occur in 2022: The Future of Technology.
- Robotics being involved more in daily life:
Over the past couple of years, the robotics industry has made incredible progress in developing groundbreaking products. In 2022, it is expected that robotics will be developed to help efficiently perform the tasks that are repetitive, leaving employees efficient time to perform more meaningful tasks. Some areas of robotics usage are expected to be in health care, automotive, agriculture, warehousing, and supply chain industries. (1)
- The continued evolution of mixed reality technologies:
The human-machine experience and virtual reality platforms are expected to continue evolving and improving in, 2022: The Future of Technology. Applications such as AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) are the front-running technologies in this space. With the illusive metaverse, extended reality applications are going to continue improving until the reality of the metaverse is completely sealed in the future. (2)

In the beginning, 5G was reserved for premium products and was not widely available to all products and consumers. However, in the coming year, 5G will become the norm for the majority of mobile phones despite the price. The accessibility of 5G networks will also have an effect on the size of devices. They will tend to become smaller in size and lighter due to the processors and graphics chips not being required due to the 5G capability. (3)
- The Prevalence of Smart Homes and Devices:
The smart device and smart home trend is not looking to slow down any time soon. The market for smart homes and devices is predicted to grow to a massive $53 billion in, 2022: The Future of Technology. Analysts at Gartner have also made a prediction that next year, the average home could contain over 500 smart devices. One of the largest drivers of smart home technology could potentially be launching as well; Matter, the smart home OS which is a collaboration between Apple, Google, and Amazon. Matter’s main function is to create an operating environment to connect smart devices in the home despite differing manufacturers. (3)
- Further Internet Security Measures being Implemented:
Living in a digital world, unfortunately, has its downfalls and cyberattacks are becoming more frequent than ever. As many workplaces and organizations rely on digital means of communication, data storage, etc. new and improved methods of cybersecurity are being developed and implemented. Also educating employees of all positions on how to defend against a cyberattack is going to become mainstream. Applying A.I. to cybersecurity methods is also another trend that organizations will use to defend against cyberattacks in the future. (1)
In conclusion, technology is moving at an incredible rate and advancements are being made every second. Looking into 2022, it is exciting to see what is in store and what new technologies will become available.
