The Benefits of Business Visibility

When running a business having visibility of the processes that keep the businesses operating is a huge benefit and a key factor for success. Understanding why the processes occur and how they communicate to one another contributes to the flow and management of operations. Business visibility is defined as the extent to which a business can predict and estimate its future performances (1). The benefits of business visibility, give businesses the knowledge required to forecast before partaking in a venture, but how does one achieve better business visibility?

In order to estimate future results, there must be a clear picture of the entire business. Having an accessible, organized layout of the separate business processes and how they perform is a great addition to achieving the benefits of business visibility. Having a clear view down the chain of the business, from Sales to Manufacturing to Distribution along with the understanding of those processes, is a way to work toward business visibility. Moving past an organizational level, achieving business visibility also depends on accurate numerical data and figures.

Without an accurate representation of how the business is currently performing, predicting future performances will result in skewed and inaccurate results. Having inaccurate forecasts due to incorrect business data does not help the business reach its full potential. This is where an ERP can be an extremely beneficial asset because the software leaves less room for human error and can automatically generate Cash Flows and other Financial Reports.

Having the ability to predict future performances such as earnings and units sold is desirable amongst all business owners because it implies confidence that the business will continue to grow and generate revenue. Having a solid foundation to fall back on and base predictions from sets a business on the right track for long-term success. Internal insight and a deep understanding of business aspects, departments, and processes are crucial for producing the benefits of business visibility.

Why is it important for forecasts to be accurate? Generating accurate forecasts helps with budgeting and making educated business decisions. The precise and organized data combined with extensive knowledge of the business processes are crucial to gain, the benefits of business visibility. The better understanding of business operations and financial data, the more confidence can be applied when forecasting and making big decisions.
